Steaking My Name On It /Meadesmoore

T (March '23)

SCORE: Tell 'yo friends. This is good enough to bring people to.

ORDER: seafood sharers | the Meadesmoore cut | Zabuton | Eton Mess |(crudo and spinach salads now off menu but worth getting if on special or otherwise available)

VALUE: Yes, but best with a group and on large format wines

Steak is one of those things that feels hard to pay for. The bills at the end of a night at Cut always, well, cut like a knife to the heart of my wallet. No matter how good their onion rings are. There are only two places I find myself returning to - Bistecca and Meadesmoore. Bistecca's Best of Bistecca is always a reliable deal (though the format has changed to balance out higher costs, it is still good value in 2023), but I really wanted to shout out the effort Meadesmoore place on differentiating.

Most people know that Meadesmoore has a focus on lesser known cuts, which is a great business proposition to begin with. It's hard to break people away from the standarsd steakhouses, and having something in a different price range and cuts that taste familiar but different help break the habit of popping to Cut (pre-theatre for the best prices) or Wolfgang's. I also like that they have a range of unusual starters, sides and desserts alongside the stalwarts (more on this later). Most of all, I like that they take the time to educate diners on these alternate cuts and dishes. Case in point - their meat workshop.

`

The workshop took us through different cuts from different cows, served in different ways. There were raw options.

There were cooked options.
There were muscly options and fatty options. All delicious and each with an origin story.

The workshop is a precursor to a full meal, and, as you might have guessed, the full meal featured seafood,

multiple starters,
multiple sides,
more steak,
and an awesome dessert.

The workshops aren't on all the time, but can be arranged for groups of 8-10. I really enjoyed it for being a nice, educational, fun thing to do when people may need a bit of an ice breaker. Without the workshop, dinner is still well worth it, though much better as a group to get through the larger format stuff, where there is more value. Never skip dessert, either. Their eton mess is non traditional, and so much better than the classic. The best I've had is the mango sticky rice version, and the pina colada was pretty good too.
