I had started going here in about 2016 when I first started staying in this quiet and charming neighbourhood (Oostenburg) of Amsterdam. This brewery now has a second brewing location as well, however this still remains their OG spot. On sunny days the beer garden outside is PACKED with people chillin, drinking, and just generally having a ball of a time. I only recently learnt that the space, while right next to the landmark de Gooyer Windmill that can be seen from much further away, isn't really associated with the windmill.
As you can tell by now, the focus here is on their beers, and they have a fair bunch of them. I would highly recommend you to try as many as you can while maintaining your senses and control on gases... As they do go all the way from light and fruity to heavy yeasty and malty. Have a chat with the staff and they'll be more than happy (if the place isn't jam packed) to give you a little tour of all that they have to offer
Aside from the center of the space, where the taps and the brews are dished out, there's a little corner counter where you can get a selection of food that can best be described as "snacks to enable you to keep beering on. That's not a bad thing really, because these snacks are tasty and unique unto themselves. The grilled sausage is made from boar, the smoked sausage from Oxtail, and there's some good cheeses to keep you going.
On this visit, I was catching up with a friend of mine, and we ended up getting the bitterballen, the grilled sausage and beers.. Needless to say, all the snacks are served with copious amounts of mustard. The bitterballen were delicious and just the right amount of crunch with a soft goopy center. The boar sausage was nicely meaty, and surprisingly not as gamey as one might expect. Word of caution, the bitterballen do come out piping hot, and you may need to cool your insides down with a full pint of beer if you accidentally bite into one of them before they have cooled down.
If you are looking for a non touristy brewery to hang out at while in amsterdam, definitely recommend making the (15 minute scenic) trek out here from central station.
